ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda Municipal Power has announced that the demand on the electric grid is currently trending much higher than anticipated, leading it to change the way power is being sent to customers.

The move comes amid 100-plus degree temperatures throughout the city.

The change, AMP said, could "impact" service to the community, resulting in "low or no power" for a few minutes to one-half hour.

First announced Tuesday, Sept. 6 at around 3 p.m., AMP said the move was necessary due to "high loading" at one of our its substations.

AMP said it began moving customers along Grand Street from one substation to another to balance the electric load more efficiently around 3:15 p.m. today.

AMP said the outage was not associated with the state’s energy demands and was not part of a rotating outage.

It remains unclear as to whether the move has been completed and how long people along Grand Street were without power as AMP completed its efforts to balance the electric load.
